Almost time to pop? Make sure you are all set and ready for delivery.

The final moments leading up to the arrival of your baby can be exciting, but also extremely nerve-racking. While you prepare yourself to welcome your baby, one of the things you should do is pack your hospital bag at least a few weeks before you are scheduled for delivery. This will allow you to plan properly and avoid the stress that can come with doing things last minute.

Having your own things will also help you to avoid having to buy things in the hospital or having to send your family home to get you things that you could’ve packed yourself.

Let’s take a look at what you need to pack for your delivery room.

For the baby:

• Two packs of disposable nappies

• Bum cream

• A bottle of surgical spirits

• Cotton wool

• Baby wipes, preferably sensitive baby wipes

• One pack of baby ear buds to clean the cord stump

• Six sets of baby clothes, new-born vests, and babygrows. Depending on the hospital and your delivery, you might need to sleep in hospital for two to three nights, so it’s better to have enough clothes for the baby

• Three to five receiving blankets

For mommy:

• Toiletry and cosmetics bag

• A few sets of comfortable underwear

• Two sets of comfortable nightgowns, preferably a nightdress that has buttons to make it easier for you to breastfeed

• Maternity pads for the bleeding

• Breast pads

• Slippers or comfortable shoes

• A feeding cover

• Lip Balm

• Your phone and charger

• Comfortable outfit to wear for when you return home
